Prerequisites: Students should have basic basket weaving experience.
Students will learn basic Nantucket basket weaving skills including how to insert staves into a wood base, taper the tips of staves, and weave over a mold.
Materials supplied: Slotted wood base with finish applied, French blue yogurt jar, cane staves, cane weavers, ribbon, glue and scallop shell.
Tools needed: Usual basketry tool to include- scissors (preferably small like embroidery scissors), ruler, pointed packing tool (i.e. weave rite, awl or tapestry needle), and scarfing tool for weavers if in the basketmaker’s possession. The teacher will have extra scarfing tools to share.
