Hello Basket Maker,
Welcome to the online brochure for the 2018 Gathering event! The online brochure is the fastest way for us to get information out to our members.
We would like to provide you with an overview of some of the events planned for the 2018 Gathering.
There will be mini workshops offered before the start of classes on Friday, April 27, 2018. The teachers set the cost of their workshops and payment is expected at registration. However, some of the teachers will accept sign-ups at the time of the workshop.
There are, as always, many volunteer opportunities during the weekend. This year we will post a sign-up board at the registration table with tasks available. We encourage everyone to volunteer for this event! However, you can sign up to volunteer in advance of the 2018 Gathering just by contacting Jenn Rhodes at firstname.lastname@example.org; she can provide you with information for the areas which need volunteers.
The Marketplace will again be a highlight of Saturday evening. We expect to have some additional supply vendors and promotions for this venue.
There will be an Exhibit Area for members to enter and display their baskets. It will help us with space and planning if you let us know on your registration form if you expect to bring a basket for the Exhibit Area. We hope you consider entering one of your baskets in this wonderful, fun and rewarding experience.
This year there will be a Raffle of baskets, kits and/or other items donated by teachers participating in the 2018 Gathering. The winners will need to be present in order to accept their prize(s). Raffle tickets will be sold on Friday and Saturday until 3:00 p.m. The drawings will be held in the lobby area, before dinner on Saturday evening. This promises to be an exciting and great event.
Please review the information on meals and packages carefully. Meals are included if you choose the 3-day but if not choosing that package make sure to indicate which meals you would like.
The planning of 2018 Gathering has been a “labor of love” for all of us involved. If you have any questions, ideas or comments, please do not hesitate to contact us. This is your event. We will see you in April!
NBG’s 2018 Gathering Coordinators

- Registration is open to all members of NBG whose membership is current.
- Classes are assigned according to their codes.
- Please list your choices in order of preferences. Listing multiple choices for each day helps to insure your initial placement.
- Registrations may be mailed or completed online at your convenience but it needs to be received by February 16, 2018 to be treated as first day registration. Classes will be filled by random selection from registrations received by the date listed above.
- Registrations received after February 16, 2018 will be assigned space by date received.
- Every effort will be made to give you the class(es) of your choice but there is no guarantee of placement in requested classes. If desired classes are not available, you may choose to be placed on a waiting list or you may cancel.
- You will receive an e-mail notification of class assignments by March 2, 2018. Material fees for each class are sent in when you receive class confirmation. All material/preparation fees for each class must be received by the date indicated in the class confirmation letter. If the fees are not received by that date, you will forfeit that class. Provide a check for each class made payable to the teacher, dated April 27, 2018. They will be held until the start of the Gathering.
- If you want a printed notification of class assignments, please include a #10 SASE with your registration.

Northeast Basketmakers Guild (“NBG”) 2017 Gathering will be held on April 27, 28, 29, 2018 at

The hotel rates for 2018 will be $97 per night, plus room tax. This rate includes a hot breakfast buffet. If you wish to register for the overnight stay at The Holiday Inn, you may contact them on-line or call them. Be sure to mention the code “NBG” for a special rate. Their dining room is not open for lunch but is open for dinner. The deadline for registering and receiving the special NBG rate is April 6, 2018.
Meals at the Holiday Inn
The meal options have been chosen based on monetary consideration, information received from past Gathering surveys, and nourishment. You are more than welcome to make your own meal arrangements. Participants of this year’s Gathering may purchase meal options for other members of their party. The cost reflects meal price, CT sales tax (6.35%) and the required 19% gratuity. As in the past, the meals are substantial, quality offerings and the service is excellent. Friday and Saturday dinners are included in the package prices for those days. There is an additional option for you to buy Saturday lunch. When completing the meal portion of the registration, please indicate the meals you will be purchasing, meals you are purchasing for guests, and if you are attending dinner(s) as part of your weekend package. This will give us a more accurate count for planning and financial purposes.
Options for your Basketmaking Weekend
Please use the online registration form to sign up for your classes and meals. You may either pay with your credit card through PayPal (you do not need to have a PayPal account) or send a check.
If you prefer to mail your registration you can mail a registration form. Please complete this form with your contact information, class choices and meal options.

Registrations received by February 16 will qualify for First Day Registration.
NBG is committed to increasing membership. Therefore we are offering a non-member special. If you have a friend that is not an NBG member and you want to introduce them to the joys of basket weaving, please share this special offer with them.
A non-member can sign up during the month of March for one (1) class that has available openings. The non-member will pay the material fee only. The non-member will be entitled to attend only that one class.
Again, this is offered to give the opportunity for people to learn about the Guild and explore basket weaving.
Anyone who is new to NBG or is attending the Gathering for the first time will be paired up with another “more experienced” member. This Buddy Plan will provide new members with a partner who can introduce them to other members, provide information about the Guild, details of the Gathering and most importantly the Buddy can be a “friend.”

We encourage all members to display their work in the Exhibit Room. Members may enter one basket. Drop off of baskets begins Friday at noon and is available anytime the area is open. Baskets should be picked up on Saturday between 4-5pm.
Voting is by members on Saturday from 8am to 4pm. Ballots will be included in the “Welcome Packet” at the registration area. No ballots will be available in the Exhibit room again.
There are three categories for entries:
|Teacher/ Professional||Any members who teach basket making in any capacity and receive monetary compensation for selling their basket work.|
|General Membership||Any member who has been weaving for three years or more and does not fit the guidelines for teacher/professional.|
|Novice||Any member who has been weaving for two years or less.|
First, Second and Third place will be awarded in each category. There will also be an award for Best in Show. Winners will be announced at dinner on Saturday night.
International Basket Display
We would like to offer members an opportunity to display baskets they have in their collection from other countries.
This is a wonderful opportunity and addition to the NBG’s 2018 Gathering. This opportunity will allow guild members and attendees the opportunity to share their knowledge about these worldly baskets.
On Friday or on Saturday morning attendees can bring their baskets to the Springfield Room, fill out an informational card and place the basket and card in the designated Basket Display area for the length of their Gathering experience. Pick up the baskets before 5pm on Saturday evening. You can also contact Bev Shafner for further information. This room will have people present during class times and is locked at night, but NBG asks you to accept responsibility for participating in this project. Come participate and share in this new opportunity!
There will be two items available for logo merchandise this year. You will NOT have to attend the Gathering in order to purchase merchandise. You may send the correct postage and you will receive your items shortly after the Gathering has ended. Orders must be received by March 27, 2018.
The first merchandise item is a 100% cotton Polo shirt. The color choices are True Royal and Bright Violet. The second item is a Fleece Full Zip Hooded Sweatshirt. It is a smooth-faced fleece with Charcoal and Cardinal red as color choices.
